Initiation phase

  • Do you understand the building permit process? What is your building permit number?
  • Do you currently have power service with Summerside Electric? Who will be paying the utility charges and what is the account number?
  • Who is your electrician? They will discuss temporary and permanent service, 100 or 200 amp, single or 3 phase, overhead or underground.

Planning

  • Contact Summerside Electric to discuss temporary and/or permanent power solutions as soon as possible.
  • Response time will be as soon as conveniently possible but may take up to 2 working days.

Step 3

Power disconnects

  • At any time during a project a request can be made to Summerside Electric to disconnect the meter/power.
  • Please allow for up to 5 working days for your request to be scheduled.

Are there any fees associated with disconnecting power?

No. It does not cost anything to have power disconnected.

How much does it cost to connect power?

A new connection or temporary service will cost $75.08, while a reconnection will cost $42.44. These rates can be found in the Rates, Schedule & Policy Manual and they are applicable to standard applications. There may be additional costs based on the complexity of the job and materials required.

How long does it take to connect/reconnect power?

It is mandatory that Summerside Electric receive an Electrical Pass/Permit from the province and at that time, it may take up 3 working days for Summerside Electric to contact the electrician to schedule the work. Please note jobs will be scheduled as soon as possible but may take up to 15 working days.

Who is responsible to pay for the connection and reconnection fees?

The property owner is responsible to pay for all fees.

What is an Electrical Pass/Permit?

This permit is necessary for each site requiring electrical service. An application is submitted to the province by a licensed electrician and can be done online. Once the inspection is completed, the provincial inspector will forward a copy of the permit to Summerside Electric, giving approval for services to be connected.
